Super Bowl Bound!!
It was magical. Beautiful. Unforgettable. The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl bound!
We high-fived. We hugged. And yes, we shed tears of joy. As I looked around the stadium today, I tried desperately to be present - to consume every detail and etch it in my memory so that I will never forget it.
There are a hundred reasons why the Kansas City Chiefs victory today was so amazing. But here are my top three
❤️Chiefs fans have been waiting for 50 years for today to come. The victory unifies the city and the entire state. In the midst of all that is divisive in this world, it’s a beautiful thing to see something unite us. It’s exciting to know that little kids will aspire to the greatness they witnessed today.Days like today change a city.
💛Today’s victory honors the legacy of American Football League Founder Lamar Hunt. Without Hunt, there is no AFC, no Kansas City Chiefs and obviously no conference championship trophy with his name on it. It was moving to see how meaningful it was for everyone in that stadium to bring the Lamar Hunt trophy home to Arrowhead.
❤️💛Today was about so much more than football. Matt’s cancer brought us to those seats. They were a place where we created a new normal; where we began to come alive again after Matt’s life was almost taken from us.
Toward the end of the game, when it became evident that we were actually going to win, our family held a long embrace. I could feel Matt sobbing and before I knew it, we had all joined him. This wasn’t just a victory for the Chiefs. It was a victory for Matt and our family. It was about being resilient, about never giving up, about trusting God that better days were ahead. It was about celebrating all the victories.
The joy has been in the journey. Thank you God and GO CHIEFS!
