Ready To Choose Your Word For The Year?

If you could summarize your intentions for 2020 in one word, what would it be?

Here it is January of 2020 and if there was ever a time to hit the reset button, this feels like this is it. But how? How do we start the year with a clean slate? A fresh perspective? A plan?

I’ve never been one for resolutions; I really stink at them. They typically include several things that I should do more frequently and several things that I should do less frequently. I might massage them some but at the heart they stay the same each year and eventually result in me feeling disappointed in myself.

That’s one reason I much prefer choosing a word (or two) to help set a trajectory for the year ahead. Unlike a resolution, it’s not something we “should” on ourselves. (We all know how shoulding on ourselves feels!) Instead, its something bigger - it’s about who we are called to be or how we are called to move in the year ahead.

Last year, I chose the word breathe (Read more about why here) and was surprised by what I learned from it. First, the physical act of breathing actually requires focus and effort. Second, time and faith help dull the fears that make me hold my breath. And finally, there’s no substitute for the God-breathed Word to give me and my life breath.

What about you? What was your word and what did you learn about yourself, your faith and the world around you as you’ve held that word close this year?

And what about this year? Have you chosen your word for 2020? I have and will be sharing all about it in my post next Sunday, and sharing my 5-step Guide to Choosing and Using YOUR Word of the Year here next week as well.

Tell me your word from 2019 below! I can’t wait to hear how it went for you.
