When our beloved Kansas City Chiefs were down by 10 points in the fourth quarter, I just kept telling myself, β€œIt’s just a game. It’s just a game.”

But now, nearly 24 hours after their miraculous comeback, I can say without hesitation, β€œIt was not just a game.” It was so much bigger than a game, not just for our family, but for all of Chiefs Kingdom. Here are the top three reasons why:

βœ”οΈThe Chiefs story of redemption is a beautiful small story that exemplifies God’s big story for our lives. It reminds us that our God is a comeback God and that no matter what the scoreboard of the dark world around us says - He will be victorious. And because He will be victorious, so will we. We end up winners at the end of this game of life here on earth.

βœ”οΈThe Chiefs organization points people to Jesus by reflecting His values. I don’t begin to know any member of the Hunt family, the coaching staff or the players. But from what I see, I am proud to be a fan of a team and organization that loves their spouses, provides chapel and Bible Study for their players, and treats everyone equal (Clark Hunt paid for every member of the Chiefs staff and their families to go to the Super Bowl). If they sold Andy Reid or Clark Hunt jerseys, I’d buy them!

βœ”οΈThe Chiefs season and Super Bowl victory reinforced that life is meant to be lived and shared with those you love. Yes, winning the Super Bowl was AMAZING - something I will never forget. But what was even more special were the high-fives, the hugs, the tears and the memories that I made with my family during it. As Matt triumphantly said from his hospital bed where he was fighting leukemia nearly three years ago, β€œIt is all a gift.” β™₯️
