I Didn't See This Coming...
Update to our Update:
We Didn’t See This Coming (Again)!
Sometimes miracles arrive like a marching band with blaring horns and pom-poms. Other times, miracles arrive in quiet moments surrounded by those we love. And then there are times when the “miracle” is the fortitude and determination to keep the faith and continue moving forward.
As I shared last week, we were overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude when it appeared Matthew’s graft was successful, and his counts were allowing him to be discharged from the hospital.
Unfortunately, yesterday’s medical report revealed that Matthew’s graft was not successful and he will be preparing to transplant in the weeks to come.
How did this happen, you ask? We are asking the same thing. After all, Matthew’s immune system was wiped out before transplant and should not have been able to recover. Doctors are calling it bizarre.
But here we are.
Today we learned that our original donor will donate again on August 10 so Matt’s second transplant will be sometime that week. While we are disappointed that a second transplant is needed, we are certainly thankful that Matt has been able to be at home with us. Given the delay, the wait in the hospital would have been excruciating.
The roller coaster of emotions we are experiencing are hard to put into words. We still see the miracle happening…the donor is willing, Matthew’s immune system is somehow strong enough that he can be at home, and we are better prepared for the next round having been through the process before. Most importantly, we trust in the divine wisdom and knowledge that God is the ultimate healer.
We cherish your steadfast support and love for us; you have been so faithful each step along this journey. We humbly ask you to continue praying and rallying all who will pray for us and our faith, that Matt’s immunity will continue to allow him to stay out of the hospital until tranplant time, for the donor, Matthew’s medical team, and the nurses who provide such compassionate, tender care to our boy.
We know we don’t walk the dark road ahead alone.
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-10
